What is a Virtual Assistant

What is a Virtual Assistant?

A Virtual Assistant is an individual that provides a wide range of professional services to businesses while working remotely. Services offered may include, but are not limited to administrative support and technical support.

What does a Virtual Assistant do?

A Virtual Assistant (VA) can provide any type of support that most employees are able to provide in an office environment, but the tasks are completed at home rather than in an office. It is also worth mentioning that virtual assistant duties are not limited to clerical duties. Many Virtual Assistants provide graphic design, web design, social media marketing, and other services. Some basic services include:

  • Appointment setting
  • Travel arrangements
  • Customer support
  • Customer service
  • Website management
  • Email management
  • Calendar management
  • Social media management
  • Research
  • Writing
  • Bookkeeping
  • Project management
  • Graphic design

Many Virtual Assistants specialize in a specific area of skills. For example, a social media VA may only provide Pinterest management services. Other VAs may offer a variety of services within a specific industry. For example, a medical virtual assistant does many tasks, but only for medical clients.

Most Virtual Assistants are independent contractors running their own business that is based at home. This allows them flexibility in their work schedule.
